What the Google Security Key Launch Really Means
Kate Bennett • June 4, 2026

What it Tells Us…

Google has officially launched a Security Key, based on FIDO2 Passkey standards. The Google Titan Security Key, signifies one of the most massive companies catching on to what Tx Systems has known for decades: account security is paramount and logging into accounts with passwords is critically outdated.

This shift reinforces the importance to adopt stronger defenses than simply passwords, which are easily compromised. Our lives are increasingly online and our important data becomes more vulnerable to phishing attempts and cyber attacks. Google has caught on to the need for passkey protection and offers it at a relatively low price point. However, their security key is not offering the same level of protection as other keys that are veterans in the market. For example, Hirsch’s Gov Key is FIPS 140-3 approved, meaning its security rating is far higher than Google’s security key.
